Where Are We Now: Cocoa Beach FL

Yup, we’re back in Florida! This time, it’s only for the short term. And we’re only in Cocoa Beach for the week, very short term. Then Delray Beach FL for a month. But where have we been? East Coast baby!

Last time I wrote, we were in the mountains of North Carolina. I love the mountains and we have never actually stayed in the mountains, so it was truly amazing. We hiked a lot and drove the almost two hours to Asheville for one day. We visited Otter Falls and Lineville Falls, worked a lot, I cooked a lot, and it was really a great time. I want to go back!

Since then, we have been in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina, and Bermuda. Here’s what we’ve been up to.

Myrtle Beach was a preplanned family vaca with my in-laws in lieu of Christmas presents last year. We stayed in a condo, on the beach, and had a bright and expansive ocean view. It was beautiful. The temps were hot, so we all pulled out our shorts, sunglasses, and light-er clothes. We took a helicopter ride over the city, went to dinner and a pirate show, and got ice cream in the bustling and touristy downtown. It was a really fun time and I hope we do it again somewhere fun next year.IMG_20181014_103637

After that, we went to Charleston SC instead of Murrels Inlet SC for the next week. Originally, we were going to be in Murrels Inlet for a conference Nick had. The conference got cancelled when they thought the hurricane may or may not make it there. We went south to Charleston, where we were flying out of a week anyhow. In the end, Myrtle Beach, Murrels Inlet, Charleston and anything south of North Carolina were unscathed. And besides, Charleston was meant to be.

We stayed at an AirBnb with hosts that were so similar to us, it was as if we were life-long friends coming for a visit. Nick and I took a walking tour downtown and after, Nick took himself golfing. We also worked a lot (like always LOL) and went to a wing bar to watch the Brewers game. RIP Brewers season, you will be missed! From there (Charleston) we flew to Bermuda and back, another conference for IMG_20181016_170700_136Nick. But our hosts from the AirBnb were so great and gracious that we left our car there for the time we were in Bermuda. Thanks again Kara and Ben, we cannott wait for our paths to cross again!

And Bermuda, oh Bermuda! The weather was great, the views were better, and the people there were the nicest. Nick only had two “work days” out of the four-ish that we were there so we even got to explore a little bit. We walked to the local grocery store which was only about a mile away. The prices there are really high but most of what we did at the hotel was covered and we were able to enjoy our time without really spending a lot of extra dollars. Win-win. Among the fun stuff was the beach, a pink sand beach, the exploration to the store, and oh, did I mention the view? Ocean front view again! And those colors and that water, there’s nothing like it. Truth be told, I’m not really a beach girl, but the once or twice a year I do make it to the beach, I really enjoy it. And Bermuda was definitely no exception. Plus, with a cool right off the ocean breeze and 70s temps, the beach may have been “cold” to others but to me it was perfection!

And now we’re back in the states and in Florida and Cocoa Beach is on the menu for the week. We have work planned, I’m going to get into the kitchen again, and workouts, too. Once we leave here, we will be back in Delray Beach, the city we lived in for three years in Florida. We look forward to seeing our friends and, well, our friends! Haha. Nick will go into the office for a bit but the weather is going to be death, still in the 90s and high humidity, the costs of everything will still be high, and the traffic (at the start of snow bird season) will be horrendous. All in all we’re excited for our Florida friends, and because it will be short-term stay. Thanks for reading!

The Best Natural Deodorant and it’s Not What You’d Expect

I’ve found it. After years of searching and trying all the products I could get my hands on, I’d all but given up. But then..

Though a day, a yoga session, and a nights sleep, it worked. Through a day and a cardio workout, while stepping into the shower, I noticed it was still working.

And what’s more? It smells amazing. A friend suggested it and I couldn’t be more happy with the result! IMG_20170630_123306 (1)

Have you ever tried primal pit paste? Do you love it as much as me?? There are several other natural deodorants that I’ve tried and liked but none of them worked as well as this one.

Tell me if there’s others I should try and let me know if you like this one too! Happy Natural Deodorant using=)

Wanna try it right now? Here’s my favorite:

Healthy Traveler’s Tips: Introduction

Love to travel but dislike the unhealthy post trip feeling? Maybe you don’t love to travel all the time but work or personal life has you constantly on the go?

Let me tell you, there’s a way to travel healthfully and it really only takes a little extra IMG_20170604_173802effort to pull it off.

As a former preventative wellness employee and a current preventative wellness enthusiast, if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this.

You can’t look and feel healthy without a healthy diet. You just can’t.

And I get it. Life is busy and time is short. But I’m here to show you there are no excuses and there are healthy options everywhere.

Being on the road is no exception. Don’t believe me? I’ll show you how.

You’ll be surprised when you see how many healthy delicious things you can find IMG_20170611_071533when you’re on the road. Whether it’s work or fun, let me show you how easy it is to treat your body well when you’re in new environments.

The other part of a healthful life, get up and move. Everyday, no matter what. You only have time for a 10 minute walk? Do it. Need to get to the gym at least every other day to keep sane? Get there.

For a great core workout, a treadmill circuit, or a leg day, check out the links. If yoga is Y3 (1)more your speed, these moves are great too. Always keep moving, it’s easily one of the best things you can do for yourself. Here’s why:

Five Reasons to Move More Each Day:

  1. move more to reduce and maintain body fat
  2. move more to improve your mood
  3. move more to help you sleep better
  4. move more to keep your immune system strong
  5. move more to help you stay more focused

This could be as little as taking the steps. But do it everywhere you go. Just make sure that you get up and move everyday.

On The Road: My Four Favorite Hotel Things

Currently my husband and I are in the middle of a two week work road trip. I’ve come to appreciate the things I love about staying at a hotel.

Don’t get me wrong, there are inevitably hiccups on the road. And only being places for a day or two makes for a lot of driving. But if you do it right, there are some things you can easily control.

Staying healthy and active on the road is one. A little prep work goes a long way and is worth it.  Enjoying amenities you don’t have at home is a plus too. We don’t have cable so hotel TV is one of our favorite night in activities.

Setting the temperature to very cold degree therefore lulling you into a deep sleep is another guilty pleasure on the road. These are my favorite things.

The Fitness CenterIMG_20170531_122229

I love a hotel gym. I remind myself of the boy I used to nanny for who would always want to go to a, “New park, new park!” There’s nothing I enjoy more than visiting the (new to me) hotel gym and getting in a solid workout.

No hotel gym? Make that work too. Walks to explore and get out and about are awesome and top my list. I also do circuits, stairs, run/walks, yoga, body weight workouts, and more. Want examples? Watch for on the road workouts to come!

Hotel TV

When Happy Hour is your go to for a “night out,” it’s fun to enjoy some TV time in your room. Well it doesn’t bother us to be cable-free at our place, catching up on Bar Rescue or finding old reruns of Modern Family makes for some great TV.

Air

It’s better to sleep in a cold temperature. Not only does it help your body regulate your internal temperature but it helps you sleep more deeply too. As a south FL resident, our place is kept at 77 during the day and around 75 at night. When I’m in a hotel, it’s whatever is comfortable during the day and 65 a night. Sleep tight, Zzzzzzzz.

IMG_20170602_081836Freshly Prepared Breakfast

I love a good hotel breakfast. Continental breakfast or hot, there are lots of healthy, filling options. Sometimes you even luck out with made-to-order omelettes.

It’s easy to make good choices that are not only healthful but delicious. To see the best way to eat well, watch for hotel breakfast and eating well anywhere articles.

I have traveled for work (and pleasure) in the past and am excited to share tips and tricks to being your healthiest you! With just a little prep and a yearning to feel great, incorporate these ideas to see how easy it is.

Watch for informational articles to come and until then, have a happy and healthy Friday!

I Did Two-A-Days (Workouts) For A Week And I Would Do It Again

Always find a new way to challenge yourself! Last week I did 10 workouts in 5 days and it was great.

Two-a-days refers to athletic training sessions that are done twice a day, typically for a certain time period. If you think for even a second that this is something you’d want to try, DO IT=)

Before this last week, my “two-a-days” knowledge was limited to a day here or there but never for a set amount of time.  I went into this sans experience or a plan but I did it and it felt great!

Two-A-Day Tips:

  • Do focused workouts, that way you won’t run out of muscle groups or get bored. (My workouts are below.)
  • If you’re hungry, eat. For this experimental week I followed a strict workout routine and not a strict diet.
  • Make a time frame for your workouts, I choose 45 minutes. (If doing HIIT or circuits, this may change.)
  • Prepare to have the best sleeps. Last weeks sleeps were too good!

Two-A-Days for 5 straight days is no small feat so be proud of yourself and give this week and challenge a strong effort!

The workouts:

Monday- Run/Walk and Bike Ride

Tuesday- Abs and Biceps and Abs and Triceps

Wednesday- Walk and Bike Ride

Thursday- Abs and Back and Butt/Leg Circuit

Friday- Shoulder Circuit and Leg Circuit

This whole challenge was made up as I went along. I didn’t really know what to expect but I was excited to see what happened.

Wednesday proved the hardest day for me. I woke up tired but determined and walked for the set 45 minutes even though I wanted a rest. And let’s face it, that was my 5th workout of the week already. No wonder I was tired!

I enjoyed the week and learned some things along the way. This was a great challenge!

I would love to do this again, make more of a plan, and maybe even track and write about it with more how-tos! Tell me what you want out of it and Happy Monday!
