Good Skin Essential Oil Blend

I use oils all the time, so it’s no surprise I have one that’s overall amazing for my skin. This blend works for next to anything and it’s great.

Use it for bruises, scratches, bumps, rashes, and anything that ails the skin. It also doubles as a moisturizer.  I keep this mixture on hand and it’s the same blend I use in my baths.

Naturally Tough Cleaning Scrub

I love a clutter-free, straightened-up house, but I hate to scrub. Truth be told, Nick does that.

And thank God for that because as much as I don’t love to scrub, I do love a dip in the tub! And I need a clean tub for my essential oil baths!

For the sinks, shower, and bathtub, this easy recipe works great.

Naturally Strong Cleaning ScrubIMG_20171011_104140

  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups vinegar
  • lemon juice or essential oil (optional)

Combine the ingredients, baking soda first. When you add the vinegar it will bubble up, so add slowly! (Or fast for fun=)

For a fresh, lemony smell, add your choice of lemon. Scrub on this mixture with a scrub brush. Wipe off and see great results.

This cleaner is easy to mix up and I love that it’s all natural. There are so many great natural products out there these days but homemade ones are easy and helpful, too.

And the results? Awesome. The scrub quickly helped break up any dirt and left a clean sparkle when it was wiped off.

How To Make Pumpkin at Home for All Your Fall Favorites (Starting with Pumpkin Seeds)

Pumpkin Spice or Apple Cinnamon, forever the Fall debate. Our house is both, I’m #teamapple and Nick, #teampumpkin.

But just because I don’t love (or really even like pumpkin) doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the season. In fact, I love Fall. But here in South Florida, we’re lucky if it “feels” like fall by January. So anyhow, we do fall things while overheated and sweating instead of in flannel. Such is life.

Back to it. Let’s make pumpkin! It’s easy to do and eating fresh pumpkin is beyond healthful. Here’s how and a recipe for those seeds:

How to Make (Bake) Pumpkin at Home

  1. First, cut out the stem and discard. IMG_20171007_082515 (1)
  2. Next cut it in half. (If you have a problem cutting all the way through it, you can pull the pieces apart at the end.)
  3. Next, take out the guts. Yes, this is the gross part. But you can roast the seeds and yum, you should.
  4. In a glass pan, place the pumpkin halves and 1/4″ water, flesh
    IMG_20171007_085239
    Ready for the oven

side down, and bake for 1 1/2 hours at 375 degrees. You know when it’s done because the skin is a little burnt and the you can easily pierce the inside with a fork. (It should be a mashable texture.) Let cool.

  5. From here, you scoop out the insides, separating flesh from skin and mash it. (Use a food processor or a masher for this.) Prepared pumpkin lasts 6-8 months in the fridge and can be frozen too, for the off season.

Homemade Baked Pumpkin Seeds

You know those nasty guts you just pulled out of the pumpkin? Well those seeds, those seeds are yummy. Here’s how to clean them up and prep them for the oven:
IMG_20171007_083223

  1. First, rinse them in a strainer. Try to get most of the orange pumpkin slime off, but honestly, a little is good IMG_20171007_090855for flavor.
  2. Next, lay them out on a baking sheet that’s covered in parchment paper. (Pumpkin seeds are very sticky.)
  3. Let dry for several hours, overnight if you can.

Sweet Pumpkin SeedsIMG_20171008_094646

  • 1 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon coconut sugar (or vegan preference)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

For baking, again line a piece of parchment paper to the bottom of the pan. In a bowl, combine the pumpkin seeds, oil, and seasonings. Add the pumpkin seeds to the lined pan and cook at 300 for about 30 minutes.

Self-Care for Positivity

As an immensely emotional girl, there are times when I’m on the verge of tears, all day. Not everyday, but some days. Whether it’s timing related, situational, or something else, we all have those days sometimes.

So what do you do? How do you get out of it? How do you overcome? I’ll tell you.

Self-care, and often. Take care of your head, and your heart, first. Whether you feel bad, good, or indifferent in the morning, do what you can to feel your best, it can only help.

Here’s how:

Consider Taking St. Johns Wort

St. Johns Wort is known for helping regulate and elevate mood. The bottle I have lists the dosage as three times daily with food. When I take it, I take two, once a day, and not usually with food. (Doesn’t irritate an empty stomach.) PLEASE make sure to check this against anything else you’re taking.

Call it placebo effect, or say it works, either way, I feel better.

Use Essential Oilsroller-balls

Oils have truly changed my life. I have replaced several OTC products, and use them around the house for other things every day. And self-care is no different.

For everyone, lavender is great. Whether you diffuse it, dab it on your wrist for the scent, or it’s part of a blend, this oil is calming, and will truly relax you.

As a woman, (with debilitating monthly cramps, PMS, and more,) Progressence Plus has literally changed these issues for the better. I take it everyday for two weeks in between cycles, and the week before, I take it only about every other day. I stop the week of, and will start taking it again as my time wears towards the end. This oil calms cramps, shortens my cycle, and helps two fold with the emotional aspect. I can’t speak better about it, but again, please do what works best for you and make sure to check any drug interactions

For guys who need a (natural) testosterone boost, Idaho Blue Spruce is the oil to use. I also formulated another testosterone mixture that is good for influencing fertility, raising testosterone levels, and overall men’s wellness. The Idaho Blue Spruce and the mixture were both enough to raise testosterone levels from too low to in range, according to a blood test. So they truly work and are a natural way to influence and help the body raise these levels on its own.

Workout

Walk, stretch, do yoga, or visit the gym, whatever it is, do something! Staying active and moving everyday allows your body to create feel good hormones that can positively influence your mood, and therefore, your whole day.

Eat WellIMG_20170610_153508

Sometimes when you “feel bad” it makes you want to “eat bad.” Don’t give in! Your body needs the minerals and vitamins from whole, nutritious foods to fuel your life. Eating fruits, vegetables, and homemade meals will make you feel the best you can. It will help you prepare mentally, with a clear head, and a belly full of nutrition.

Go Outside

Whether it’s cold, hot, or pouring down rain, do what you can to get outside. If you only have 5 minutes for a quick walk around the block, do it. Breathe deep, clear your mind, look at the foliage. This will calm you and reinvigorate your system, more than you may know. Want to go a step further? Smell a flower and touch it’s leaves. Use your senses to get back to what really matters, experiencing life, if only for a moment.

Life can be exhausting, and hard but you can push through it! And if not, fake it til you make it because the best is yet to come. Happy weekend all!

Limit Your Fluoride Exposure and Start by Switching to a Non-Fluoride Toothpaste

It’s hard to know what to believe these days regarding what products we should be using and what foods we should be eating. And at the end of the day, the only thing you can do, for yourself, and for your family, is be well-researched, and always keep learning.

Because doctors, dentists, nutritionists, and others in the medical field aren’t always right. Misdiagnosis’ are prevalent, and can sometimes cause more harm than the patient faced in the first place.

Conventional medicines can be harmful, too, in comparison to natural medicines. And things we’ve been told all our lives, are being proven wrong.

For instance, your dentist has ingrained in you that fluoride as the end all, be all, for the best in tooth and oral care. But did you know that a “fluoride deficiency” has never been the cause for tooth decay, mouth diseases, or gum related issues? This is because WE DON’T NEED FLUORIDE IN OUR TOOTHPASTE. Or in our diet at all, for that matter.

Here’s three reasons why you need to ditch your conventional toothpaste and switch to a fluoride-free kind, and quick!

  • The US adds fluoride to our tap water, and in unregulated amounts. So brushing images (1)your teeth with tap water already provides fluoride. (I’m not happy about it but it’s true, so for anyone that wants to stick to the dentist’s ( read: pharmaceutical companies) advice, fear not, your getting fluoride whether you want to or not.
  • As many as 40% of American teenagers have dental fluorosis. (Dental fluorosis is described as an extremely common disorder, characterized by hypomineralization of tooth enamel caused by ingestion of excessive fluoride during enamel formation.) This is from overexposure to fluoride from birth on. Fluoride in drinking water is terrible for babies, children, teens, and let’s be honest, everyone. Beyond that, fluoride is found in so many more “places” then you know. Processed foods/drinks, non-organic tea, pesticides, home insecticides, bottled water, baby food, and non-stick pans all have fluoride in them.  High exposure throughout life can lead to health issues and beyond the “cosmetic” implications, this problem is an indicator of more than just mouth issues, but health issues.
  • Fluoride has an effect on your body, and not a good one. Fluoride gets absorbed into your tissues and causes problems with your bones, brain, and thyroid gland. It doesn’t react will with other minerals in the body therefore creating issues with the vitamins we do need in our diets. Among these issues, fluoride tests reflect other problems such as muscle disorders, genetic damage and cell death, a disrupted immune system, and even damaged sperm and increased infertility.

Alright, so you hear me, fluoride is no good. But what now? How do you limit your exposure? What should you do? Here’s four easy ways to start:

imagesDON’T use a fluoride toothpaste. There are other natural brands out there or you can easily make your own. A teaspoon of baking soda, a splash of hydrogen peroxide (until it forms a paste,) and a little peppermint oil creates a healthy, DIY, non-fluoride tooth cleaner.

DO filter your tap water. Or buy distilled or mineral water. Or go to a local spring for your water. (Beyond flouride, tap water is full of other toxins, discarded medicines, and God only knows what else.) Drinking water is so important so make sure you’re getting the “good stuff.”

DON’T eat too many processed foods. Do what you can to make sure that your produce is organically grown, and the fresher, the better. Know a local farmer? Become friends. Want a garden? There are so many different kinds these days that you can certainly find a way to start growing some of your own foods.

DON’T cook with non-stick pans. Use stainless steel, glass, or cast iron pans whenever possible.

I use a toothpaste from Young Living and would be happy to help you procure some! Otherwise, below are a few clickable choices to try out.

No matter what, never stop doing your research and always remember to take any health advice, no matter the source, with a grain of salt.

The Best Natural Deodorant and it’s Not What You’d Expect

I’ve found it. After years of searching and trying all the products I could get my hands on, I’d all but given up. But then..

Though a day, a yoga session, and a nights sleep, it worked. Through a day and a cardio workout, while stepping into the shower, I noticed it was still working.

And what’s more? It smells amazing. A friend suggested it and I couldn’t be more happy with the result! IMG_20170630_123306 (1)

Have you ever tried primal pit paste? Do you love it as much as me?? There are several other natural deodorants that I’ve tried and liked but none of them worked as well as this one.

Tell me if there’s others I should try and let me know if you like this one too! Happy Natural Deodorant using=)

Naturals: One Of The Best Brands Around

Quality natural products are really important to me. Companies veer towards organic, natural and plant based options more and more these days. This trend is awesome and gives us more choices.

One brand consistently measures up to the quality I want and expect. Have you ever tried method-2Method Brand? Because you should.

I have been using Method products for a couple years now. Love them. Their moto? People against dirty.

They don’t use phosphates or bleach like more conventional cleaners do. In fact, they don’t use any of the things on this list. This is their “Dirty Ingredients List.” They include an email at the bottom for anyone that wants more information. This company is so clairvoyant, it’s easy trust them.

chemical typically found in environmental + health summary
chlorine bleach surface cleaners, bathroom cleaners, laundry detergent very toxic, irritant/harmful
triclosan hand wash, body wash very toxic, corrosive, dangerous for the environment
EDTA hand wash, body wash dangerous for the environment
phosphates dishwasher detergent dangerous for the environment
2-butoxyethanol floor cleaners very toxic
phthalates fragrance in cleaning + body products very toxic
paraben hand wash, body wash very toxic
ammonia glass cleaners, surface cleaners very toxic, irritant/harmful, dangerous for the environment
MEA (ethanolamine) laundry detergent very toxic, irritant/harmful
want to learn more about the ingredients we do and don’t use in our products? email us at info@methodhome.com

Their scents are naturally derived and biodegradable. They also have a “dirty” list of ingredients that they DO NOT use in fragrances because those are typically very toxic chemicals used by other companies, but not Method.

Favorite Products:

I use their laundry soap and love it. The Coconut Lime is my current favorite.

Also their foaming hand soap has an orange ginger scent that is a new love of mine, especially in the kitchen!

They have different different antibacterial mixtures and all purpose sprays too. My husband uses the body wash and they are coming out with more products all the time.

You can order their products online as well as find them in lots of different stores. The price point is reasonable as well and they have sales often.

Try Method and you’ll love it as much as I do!

Must Try Pea Soup With Bacon

I LOVE pea soup, always have. I grew up with the stuff in a can and never looked back. That is, until I realized that canned soup is pretty much terrible for you. Too much salt and preservatives, but that taste, I just didn’t wanna give it up.

So I tried my own version and bam. Below is the recipe I created and it is so good. I couldn’t believe I nailed it on my first try but yum. Enjoy!

img_20161221_192511-3

Pea Soup with Bacon

  • 5 pieces bacon
  • 1 cup peas, frozen
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, peeled and chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon celery salt
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 25 ounces chicken stock

Brown bacon to your preferred crispiness and set aside. Add the chopped carrots, celery and onion and cook for about 5 minutes on medium heat.

In a large soup pan, add the cooked vegetables. Mix in the peas and salt, pepper and celery salt. Stir and add the chicken stock and cook for about 20 minutes on medium low heat.

Using an immersion blender or regular blender, blend soup for a couple of minutes until it is a (small) chunky liquid.

Crumble bacon and sprinkle on top.
