My Favorite Healthful, Winter Scents

I love candles, and I always have. A fresh apple or a tart cranberry scent always reminded me of the season.  But I don’t love the chemicals candles emit and I stopped using them long ago because of it. But I miss them. I wanted to have great scents in the house and I know I’m not the only one. Who doesn’t love great smells? So now what?

I diffuse essential oils and can have all the smells back in my house, yay! Essential oils are becoming more popular then ever, and for good reason, they’re truly amazing. The Essential Oils Market is projected to exceed 11 billion in sales by 2022.

When I started using essential oils and I realized I could have amazing scents in the house that were non-toxic, I was so happy. Plus, not only are the oils non-toxic, they are healthful. Win-win. Here are my three favorite oil blends for diffusing this season:

YL Blend

I know, I know, Christmas is over. But this blend smells so, so good. I ordered it last year before the season started, but it quickly became one of my favorites!

Gram’s Blend

Ginger, Cinnamon, Clove, Grapefruit (1 drop of each)

My Gram used to slowly simmer whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, and various citrus peels in water. Once heated, this combination warms the house through scent and steam. images.jpgMy essential oil blend gives you the same scents, minus the peels and add-ins. And here’s the link to try the original recipe for stove top potpourri.

No Sick

Oregano, Thieves (1 drop of each)

Yes, this is one of my favorites, no matter the season. But I especially love it late in the year and throughout the beginning of the new year. It smells like Christmas and truly great. (Plus it keeps me healthy and well. What’s not to love?)

What are your favorite blends this winter season? Do you find yourself using some of the same blends, no matter the season?

Five Wellness Must Haves for Traveling

Christmas is coming, Christmas is coming! Us? We’re going..back home that is=) Are you traveling for this Christmas season? What does travel look like for you?

Nick and I fly a good amount, and take road trips when applicable. And, if you know me, you know I plan for the wellness of it all.

We’re going back to Wisconsin for Christmas, and I can hardly wait. I love the change of the seasons and we haven’t been home for Christmas since we’ve been living in Florida.

We will be flying, so the requisite suitcase will come along, filled with sweaters, jeans, leggings, and all the fuzzy socks. And what’s more? Wellness items, of course.

Here’s my five must haves. Like the products? The pictures are links to Amazon so you can get your hands on these great items, too!

Five Wellness Must Haves for Traveling

You can purchase blends from my store!

I know, you’re shocked. But seriously, I always have oils with me. Right now, I’m working from a local library and I have oils in my purse. Over the weekend, I went to a wine tasting and yup, you guessed it, oils in my purse. Take them with you! No Sick is awesome for keeping well and I use Frankincense right around my ears to prevent plane popping. I love oils.

Not only are airport snacks way more expensive than they should be, there aren’t that many great selections. Yes, I see more and more healthy options coming out all the time. But if you want to ensure to have great snacks you love and know are good for you, bring them yourself!

Water bottle

Keeping hydrated is about the best thing you can do for yourself on any given day. Plain water is best (and so refreshing!) so keeping a BPA-Free water bottle with you at all times is a must.

Trust me when I say, oils aren’t the only thing that go everywhere with me. And I feel a bit like a child sometimes, but I love my blankie. Aww. How cute. The thing is, my dad got it for me at some point in college and I cannot let it go!

I’m talking, sleep with it every night, goes on every trip and even comes to any movie theater showing with us, that’s how much I love it. And in the airport and on planes, it’s awesome.

So this is the thing, whether you’re eating differently than at home or if you’re out and about with other people,  you need to take care of your gut. And probiotics do that. Do you eat (low-sugar) yogurt on the regular? What about fermented foods like pickles or Kombucha?

If not, consider a probiotic supplement. You’re tummy will thank you for it and the “happier” (read: HEALTHIER) you keep your tummy, the better you will feel.

Best Essential Oils for Feeling Well

‘Tis the season, right? The holidays are here!happy-holidays-snowman-cute-illustration-heading-33801505.jpg

Or are you used to getting a nasty cold or dealing with some other sickness most holiday seasons? What if I told you there was something you could do about it? What if I told you, you didn’t have to get sick?

I’m not a flu shot fan and I don’t get the flu shot. But you know what else I don’t get? Sick. At least not anymore.

Early on, Nick and I realized that we didn’t get each other sick. Bonus. But back then, we did get sick. Colds, the flu, things like heartburn and indigestion, and winter sicknesses, too.

Through the years, we’ve chosen to work towards being more health forward. We care more about what we eat and we are vigilant about exercise. But the biggest change? Essential Oils.

They have changed my wellness and preventative wellness life, so much so, that Nick and I really haven’t gotten sick in almost three years. Three years!

Want to know the secret? Well, it’s the oils of course! Try these (blends and singles) and see how great they make you feel!

Thieves and Oreganobottle-oregano-essential-oil-blooming-oregano-twigs-white-background-97914929

No Sick is my favorite blend, with Thieves and Oregano, and coincidentally, it smells like Christmas to me.  I swipe it several times a week, whenever I think about it. If I’m feeling off, like I may be getting “sick,” I swipe several times a day, for a few days.

Lemon Oil

Lemon essential oil is amazing for your immune system. (And it smells heavenly!) As long as your using food-grade oil, you can consume it internally, too. So add it to your protein shake, tea or hot or cold water for a great and healthy boost.

Tea Tree Oiltea tree

Tea tree oil has a fresh, light scent and it protects against viruses, bacteria and microbes.

This oil is great in the diffuser or just a drop, rubbed into your skin.

Use No Sick to Help Your Family Stay Not Sick!

No Sick you say, what’s that? Well, it’s an essential oil blend, and one of my favorites.

Want to stay healthy? No Sick. Feeling off and don’t want to get more sick? No Sick. Feeling fine and want to stay that way? No Sick.

If you want one made, contact me and I’ll be happy to send one your way. Otherwise, use the mixture below to make your own. Either way, if you want wellness, this oil blend will help get you there.

No Sick Blend

  • 25 drops Oregano oilIMG_20171008_182337
  • 25 drops Thieves oil
  • one ounce of carrier oil

To use, remove the cap and swipe on your skin. A good place is the side of your foot or on your wrist where your skin is thinner.

That’s it. And it smells like Christmas, and I love that.

Having blends (or single oils) in roller bottles are great because you can carry them around easily and one swipe is all you need. For preventative wellness, use it daily. If you’re feeling sick, use it every three hours or so until you’re feeling better.

My 5 Favorite Natural Ways To Get Un-Sick and Quick!

‘Tis the season and whether you live in Northern WI or Southern FL, sickness always seems to accompany the holidays. Everyone has a passed down remedy for a sore throat or a cure all food to ward off a cold. These are usually things from your childhood that lapse into adulthood until they can be given to the next generation. Along with these come your own practices to get well.

When I woke up yesterday feeling under the weather, I found myself doing what I always do and I wanted to share those things with you:

Black tea or green tea with a pinch of cinnamon, cayenne pepper, some honey and fresh lemon. Speaking of lemon..

Lemon. And more lemon. On everything. In everything. Lemons have antibacterial and antifungal properties making fresh lemon juice the stuff of health.

Essential Oil Bath

I love a bath anyhow but there is nothing like slipping your sore and achy sick body into the warmth and stillness of a bath. There are typically three things I add to a bath:

Apple Cider Vinegar- Good for your skin health including balancing the pH and killing the fungus and bacteria on your skin

Epsom salt- Also good for your skin and helps soothe sore muscles (great for the fitness lover in me=)

Essential Oils- I love Young Living Essential oils for everything in life, especially the bath.

Tea Tree Oil contains antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic and antiviral properties and is gentle on your skin. I added Lavender and Stress Away (my favorite blend!) as well.

Tip: Add the oil drops to your salt before adding to the bath water, this ensures the oils won’t bother your skin. (I’ve never had a problem adding the oils on top of the water but you can never be sure)

We all know that drinking water is as important to life as breathing. 55-60% of an adults body is made up of water. When you’re sick, staying hydrated will make you feel better and keep things moving as well.

No Sick  Soup

You didn’t think you’d get through this without a recipe, did you? Haha. This is my “No Sick Soup.”  Made with fresh vegetables, fresh garlic and chicken broth, this soup is calming and filled with goodness.

No Sick Soupimg_20161110_154516

  • 1 baking potato, washed and sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, sliced
  • 1 stalk of celery, diced
  • 5 cloves of garlic, sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups of chicken stock

Add everything in a medium sized saucepan over medium heat and simmer for about 30 minutes or until you can easily insert a fork into each type of vegetable. Scoop into bowls and add fresh pepper and a pinch of salt. Enjoy and feel better!

Feeling sick is a pain and will slow you down for sure. Make sure to rest when you need it and fuel up on nutritious and healthy foods and drinks so that you can feel better fast!
