Everything That’s Great About an Afternoon Tea

Is an afternoon tea the stuff of old movies and royalty? Or has it been perfected just for our fast-paced, caffeine-loving generation?

I love the extra pep a cup of tea gives you and all the vari-teas. (Haha, clever huh?) And drinking tea is super healthful, too.

Reasons to Drink More Tea

  • Tea is full of antioxidants, and keeps you young, from the inside out. Antioxidants also help protect against pollutants.
  • Tea is a hydrating drink. Did you know that? The common thought that tea dehydrates you has been debunked.
  • Tea is naturally calorie-free. Not only is it full of great stuff for you, it’s not full of empty calories. Win-win!
  • Herbal tea is naturally caffeine-free. Especially at night time, this tea provides the antioxidants you love, sans caffeine.
  • Other teas contain caffeine. But in comparison to coffees 95mg of caffeine per cup, tea has only 26 mg.

Tea Tips:

  • Teas, coffee, and spices are all of the heaviest fertilized products. The healthiest tea is organic tea.
  • Steep according to directions to avoid a bitter taste.
  • If you drink tea with caffeine, limit your consumption to five (1-cup) servings a day. However, with caffeine-free tea, you can feel free to indulge in six to eight cups a day.
  • And of course, here’s one of my favorite tea recipes, it a reci-tea!

Black Spiced Tea

  • 1 black tea bag
  • 6-8 ounces hot water
  • a large pinch of cinnamon powder
  • a large pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoons honey (or Vegan preference)
  • a squeeze of fresh lemon/lime

To a mug, add water and steep the tea bag according to package directions. Honey is heat sensitive, so let your tea cool a bit before you add it. Then finish with the lemon, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper.

This recipe is from my first book, Everything’s Better with Cayenne Pepper. Check out my other books, too, and watch for more to come!

Drink Coffee Today In Celebration Of National Coffee Day

400 million cups of coffee are consumed everyday here in the United States. That’s a lot of coffee!  Not only does it taste great, it’s healthful too.

weightsCoffee for an energy boost

Coffee contains caffeine, 95mg per 8 oz cup to be exact. Caffeine wakes us up, enhances our athletic performance and keeps us alert. Caffeine (in moderation) is a great fit for an active healthy lifestyle.

Coffee as a natural appetite suppressant

The caffeine and antioxidants in coffee work together as an appetite suppressant. Caffeine heightens your metabolic rate showing increases upwards of 10%!

Coffee for Antioxidants

Levels of antioxidants are absolutely booming in this dark beverage. So much so, that in a typical diet, Americans ingest more antioxidants while drinking coffee than eating fruits and vegetables combined.

Coffee For Lots of Vitaminsvitamins

Vitamins B1, B2 and B3 are all present in coffee. With Potassium and Manganese as well, this beverage packs a good dose of vitamins all hidden within your satisfying cup. And while the percentages aren’t very high per 8 oz, (all under 10%) after 2-3 cups, the amounts become an adequate source of said vitamins.

Coffee For Variety

There is a cup of “Joe” out there for everyone. Cold, hot, cold-pressed and iced are all deliciously different in their own ways. Add a splash of almond milk (my personal favorite) or any of several add-ins and enjoy!

Coffee is a staple in the American diet. 65% of coffee is consumed in the morning, another 30%  between meals and the remaining 5% at lunch or dinner. Want a coffee for free today? Check out this link for the goods. Happy National Coffee Day!

Antioxidants for Anti-Aging

Antioxidants boost healthy skin with their wrinkle fighting power. They also combat dull skin and discoloration. For your best look, incorporate these antioxidant filled foods and drinks into your diet.

Blueberries Blueberries-In-Pack

Blueberries are full of Vitamin C which is vital in the production of collagen and elastin. Firm up your skin with these delicious berries.

Red_Wine_GlassRed Wine

The antioxidant resveratrol is found in red wine. Resveratrol helps fight fine lines and wrinkles. 5 oz of red wine is a daily indulgence that is practically guilt-free!

Green Tea

Whether flavored or original, green tea is said to be one of the best antioxidant drinks there is. Green tea is packed with antioxidants called polyphenols that fight against free radicals (molecules that destroy healthy skin tissue.) 2-3 cups of green tea each day gives you 240 to 320 milligrams of polyphenols and will maximize your health benefits.

This morning brew is full of antioxidants too. Drinking coffee increases blood circulation thus promoting healthy skin. Lotions or scrubs with coffee have benefits too such as protecting your skin against UV carcinogens (harsh rays from the sun) and qualities that repair skin tissue.

Along with beta carotene, Vitamins C and A are of the most powerful antioxidants. Fruits and vegetables are your ticket to getting these much needed vitamins into your system. Be sure to look for produce in purple, blue, red, yellow and orange hues to maximize the antioxidants you consume.

These are just a few choice favorites packed with antioxidant power. Dark chocolate, fresh thyme and avocados also work to combat wrinkles and smooth your skin. Consume all of these and more to promote and enhance the effects of antioxidants for anti-aging.
